O'Leary Family Legacy

Project:  Book Design

OVERVIEW

This was a unique and challenging project, as it began with fragments of stories from long ago, boxes of information, and photos coming from the families of twelve brothers and sisters.  I was challenged with how to capture the strong family history with the unique family traditions of the present day.

This 80-page coffee table book covers the O'Leary's family history since 1872, when the first relatives came to Wisconsin from southern Ireland.  It is filled with original historical photos - some as old as the early 1800's.  The look back begins on the cover which shows arial views of the family farm from its early beginnings in 1872 to present day.

Each chapter begins with the wedding photo of the founding family members and continues to include present day. The book offers a fun contrast from then and now.

The second half of the book is filled with favorite family recipies now documented for generations to come.

The printed book was given out at the 75th Family Reunion in Janesville, Wisconsin. The event with over 300 attendees, was held at the original O'Leary farm that appears on the cover.
